Kindergarten 2
Distance Education Program
What Is True Socialization?
True socialization means more than just spending time with children your own age. For a 5-year-old, real social development happens when they learn to interact respectfully and meaningfully with people across a range of ages:
-
Very young children – showing gentleness and patience
-
Slightly younger peers – learning to lead and encourage
-
Same-age friends – practicing cooperation, sharing, and conflict resolution
-
Older children – observing, learning from, and interacting with role models
-
Adults (like parents or teachers) – listening, following directions, asking questions
-
Seniors (like grandparents) – showing respect, holding conversations, learning wisdom
This kind of rich, multi-age interaction builds empathy, flexibility, confidence, and real-world social skills — far beyond what can be learned from age-segregated settings alone.

Alphabet Island: A Letters & Sound Game
Watch out for the shark! For basic play, all of the lower-case letter discs are placed face up on the board. The deck of cards (featuring upper-case letters as well as starfish, crabs, and sharks) is shuffled and placed face down. Players take turns flipping over a card. If it is a letter card, all of the players race to grab the matching lower-case disc. Collect the most letters and you’ll win the game, but watch out for the various critter cards which add twists like stealing discs from other players and feeding discs to the letter-swallowing plastic shark that sits by the edge of the island. Two levels of play, for 2-4 players, ages 4-6. Directions are in English, French, German and Spanish.
